Ethiopia To Use ADA Blockchain to Track Student Performance

Ethiopia’s Education Minister, Getahun Mekuria has confirmed that the government is working on Cardano protocol to track student school performance. To attain this, the government will work with IOHK, the company behind the Cardano protocol.

About this, Ethiopia’s minister of education, Getahun Mekuria, said:

“This initiative is about bringing technology to improve the quality of education. It’s very practical to think of blockchain technology as a way to improve the quality of education.”

According to Cardano’s parent firm IOHK, the agreement targets around five million secondary school students and 700,000 teachers. Moreover, the program is powered by the decentralized identity solution named Atala PRISM.

Additionally, IOHK’s Atala PRISM ID will help authorities set up a tamper-proof record of student’s school performance and single out fields and causes of educational under-achievement.

At the same time, the system will also provide students’ blockchain-verified digital skills that seek lower false university entry and job applications. Further, employers will be able to verify all student grades without relying on third parties.

In addition, in promoting the move, the Ethiopian authority is giving tablets to all teachers and pupils, alongside a dedicated internet network. Over the recent months, IOHK has been hinting at a contract with the Ethiopian ministry but cited bureaucracy for delays.
